Grilled Hot Jalapeno Poppers

Grilled Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers

Grilled Hot Jalapeno Poppers

I made Grilled Hot Jalapeno Poppers a few weeks ago; I decided to make some with bacon and some without to see which I like best. Even though I love bacon, I liked the taste of the jalapenos without bacon. The bacon took away the flavor of the cheeses, spices, and the heat of the peppers. If you are going for a mild pepper, I suggest wrapping in bacon and you can use less hot peppers. If you love the heat skip the bacon or do what I did, both.

When I make these jalapeño poppers again I plan on making them hotter. While these did have a kick, I want to add more heat and use more habanero peppers, and  I was also thinking of using habanero cheese.

I definitely recommend this recipe for anyone who loves hot jalapeño poppers.

Hot Jalapeno Popper

  • Prep time:
  • Cook time:
  • Total time:
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Recipe type: appetizer

Ingredients:

  • 13 large jalapenos
  • 1 pkg 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup + a little extra monterey jack cheese blend
  • 4 habaneros; chopped finely
  • 3 green onions chopped finely; green and white parts
  • 6 garlic cloves minced finely
  • 1 pkg bacon

Directions:

  1. Allow cream cheese to come to room temperature. Once the cream cheese has come to room temperature, work together both cheeses, habaneros, green onions, and garlic until all ingredients are combined.
  2. Wash and cut the jalapenos. Cut in half as evenly as possible, remove seeds and veins.
  3. To fill the jalapenos, scoop the cream cheese mixture into the peppers and pat down lightly. Wipe off any excess filling.
  4. Wrap the bacon tightly around each jalapeno. Some of my jalapenos did not have bacon. Once you are finished wrapping, bring straight to the grill. If using charcoal keep the coals centered in the middle so you will have indirect heat around the outside edges of the grill.
  5. Place the jalapenos around the outside of the grill. The jalapenos that do not have bacon need to be furthest from the heat.
  6. Every 5 minutes spin each side of the jalapeno popper around so each side gets heat. Continue spinning every 5 minutes until popper and bacon reach your desired doneness. 30-40 minutes.
